We are saddened to inform you that Dina, a loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta), has died as a result of severe intestinal damage, despite receiving veterinary care and all efforts made to help her recover.
During surgery in August, a fishing hook was removed from her throat, but the nylon fishing line entangled in her intestines could not be completely removed. Although she began feeding and passing faeces after the surgery, giving us hope that she might recover, the line restricted blood flow to the intestines and caused tissue necrosis, ultimately leading to her death.
Dina was a sexually mature female, approximately 25 years old, who arrived at our Rescue Centre on 22 August 2026. Upon arrival, she weighed 44 kg and her carapace measured 72 cm in length.
Once again, we would like to thank Dino Zudich, who found Dina, everyone who took part in the rescue operation, and veterinarian Mikele Medica for performing the surgical procedure.
