Loggerhead turtles Minja and Lucky Lady released back into the sea

Today, May 23rd at 6 PM, in front of Fort Verudela and as part of the celebration of 25 years of Aquarium Pula, we are returning two loggerhead turtles, Minja and Lucky Lady, to their natural habitat.

Minja, approximately seven years old, arrived at our Rehabilitation Centre on September 21, 2024, after being spotted floating on the surface near Pula. Upon arrival, she showed signs of buoyancy disorder, a partially healed shell wound, and overgrown shell areas, all indicating a prolonged period of reduced mobility. After a long recovery, she is ready to swim back into the sea today!

Lucky Lady, around four years old, arrived on March 5, 2025, after being seen floating near the surface of the sea close to Tar in Istria County. Her lethargic behavior and overgrown shell suggested a long period of inactivity, caused by hypothermia. After gradual warming and about ten days of intensive care, Lucky Lady began swimming independently and accepting food. Today, she is ready to return to her natural home.

We are thrilled to share this special moment with you and to contribute together to the preservation of the marine ecosystem by returning these two important and valuable inhabitants to the sea.
