Loggerhead turtle Suzi arrives at the Rescue Centre

Today, September 26, a loggerhead turtle named Suzi arrived at our Rescue Centre. She weighs 632 grams, has a carapace length of 16 cm, and is estimated to be between 1 and 2 years old.

She was found by the fishing vessel Mauros near Rovinj, floating lethargically on the sea surface, covered with barnacles. Such symptoms indicate another case of the sea turtle exhaustion syndrome.

Despite the heavy fouling that makes swimming difficult, Suzi is not in critical condition: she is well-nourished, responsive to stimuli, and able to swim and surface to breathe on her own. Today, we will offer her food to check whether she is feeding independently. In the coming period, she will remain under observation, and the barnacles will be gradually removed from her shell.

We sincerely thank the finder for discovering Suzi at just the right time, before her condition became critical.
