Loggerhead Turtle Queen Transferred to Brijuni National Park

Today, July 25, the loggerhead turtle Queen from our Rescue Center was moved to the outdoor pool of Brijuni National Park. We were assisted by the Harzhauser family, who generously offered to accompany Queen by boat during their holiday in Medulin. Queen was found on March 18 this year in Sali Bay on Dugi Otok, underweight, lethargic, and with a nose injury.

Thanks to our long-standing collaboration with Brijuni National Park, Queen will now have more space for active swimming and muscle strengthening in the outdoor pool, which measures 15 meters long, 7 meters wide, and 4 meters deep. She will also hunt and feed independently on invertebrates that she would normally find in her natural marine habitat. The goal of this transfer is to prepare her for return to the sea and life in the wild.

We have been connected with Mr. Christian Harzhauser since he, together with Mr. Holger Buss, generously donated a model of the sunken passenger steamship Austrian Lloyd “Baron Gautsch”. We sincerely thank him once again for the model and the entire family for their help today.

The turtles Michelangelo and Zoe have been moved to the dome area of our Mediterranean exhibit, where Queen had previously been, to continue their recovery.
