Today, 3 September 2026, the exhibition “The Battle of Lissa” was officially opened at the Gallerion Maritime Collection, which operates as part of Aquarium Pula. The opening was attended by around 100 guests, including Mayor Peđa Grbin and representatives of the City of Pula, the Istria County, the Pula and Istria County Tourist Boards, the Croatian Chamber of Economy – Pula County Chamber, the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, the Centre for Historical Research in Rovinj, Associazione Marinara Aldebaran, as well as numerous other institutions and media representatives.
The guests were addressed by Dr Milena Mičić, Director of Aquarium Pula; Boris Čargo, Museum Advisor at the Archaeological Museum in Split; Robert Bilić, the exhibition’s local curator; and Sandro Đukić, creator of the 360° video projection featured as part of the exhibition. The official programme was followed by a guided tour of the exhibition.
Visitors were particularly impressed by the large number of original artefacts from the Battle of Lissa, as well as the impressive 360° video projection. Another special surprise was provided by Kampanjola Eko Bira brewery, which created two beers especially for the occasion – “Viška pitka” and “Admiral”.
The exhibition is presented as part of the Gallerion Maritime Collection, which operates under Aquarium Pula. Its main section consists of the travelling exhibition “Men of Iron on Ships of Wood”, authored by Boris Čargo and created in cooperation with senior museum curator Ljubomir Radić, Director of the Croatian Maritime Museum in Split. A new exhibition catalogue was also prepared for the occasion, enriched with exhibits from our own collection related to the Battle of Lissa and translated into English.
During the event, visitors also had the opportunity to tour Aquarium Pula’s molecular and microbiology laboratory, which recently opened at this location.
We would like to sincerely thank all our guests whose presence contributed to this special occasion.
