Sea turtle Dina arrives at Aquarium Pula’s Rescue Centre!

This Saturday, 22 August, a sexually mature female loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) named Dina was admitted to Aquarium Pula’s Sea Turtle Rescue Centre. Dina is approximately 25 years old, weighs 44 kg, and has a shell length of 72 cm.

She was found by Mr Dino Zudich near the coast of Funtana in Istria, who immediately reported the sighting. Upon her arrival at the Rescue Centre, a fishing line was observed protruding from her cloaca, while a large number of barnacles were also found attached to her body. Following a veterinary examination and X-ray imaging, a fishing hook was found lodged deeper in her oesophagus.

Dina received the necessary care, the barnacles were removed, and she was placed in a rehabilitation pool, where she will remain under constant supervision and monitoring of her vital functions.

The removal of the fishing hook and line is planned, and we will keep you updated on the progress of her treatment.

A big thank you to Mr Dino Zudich for finding Dina and reporting her so promptly!
