This week, from 26 to 30 April, we participated in a meeting of the partners of the EU project "LIFE PINNACARE - Conservation and Restoration of the Noble Pinna (Pinna nobilis)", which runs from October 2025 to November 2029, at the Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute on the island of Île des Embiez in France.
During the first two days, a workshop was held on biosecurity in the breeding of noble pinna (Pinna nobilis), with the aim of reducing the possibility of pathogen transmission within and outside breeding institutions, while the next two days were dedicated to the work of the partners and financial reports for the last six months since the start of the project. The partners presented their professional work in the field (in situ) and in the laboratory (ex situ).
Aquarium Pula received 20 juveniles from the Brijuni, Poreč, Vrsar and Lim Channel areas during this period and conducted 226 genetic tests. It was determined that most of the individuals belong to the species Pinna nobilis, with no recorded hybrids with the species P. rudis, while the presence of the parasite Haplosporidium pinnae is continuously monitored. Successful mussel farming was also presented to optimize the farming system, and we had the opportunity to present our activities to a wider audience during an interview for French television.
We also used the trip to France to get acquainted with the cultural and historical landmarks and maritime tradition of France. So on Thursday in Marseille, we toured the Saint-Jean fortress, one of the most visited city monuments, and in Toulon we visited the French National Maritime Museum (Musée National de la Marine) with a rich collection of ship models, tugboats and navigational instruments.
The official trip was attended by the director, Dr. sc. Milena Mičić, senior associate Žarko Jaković and associate Adam Miličić.
