On Saturday, October 11, a loggerhead turtle named Dona arrived at our Rescue Centre. She has a carapace length of 39 cm, weighs 6.6 kg, and is estimated to be between 5 and 10 years old.
She was found by the fishing vessel Mauros near the Brijuni Islands, floating helplessly on the sea surface with a fishing hook lodged in her mouth. Thanks to the quick reaction of the crew and our team, Dona was safely transported to the Rescue Centre, where she immediately received first aid. The hook was successfully removed, and she is now under close observation and intensive care.
Dona is still exhausted, but responsive and in good overall condition. We believe that, with our care, she will make a full recovery and soon return to her natural habitat.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the crew of the fishing vessel Mauros for their alertness and assistance with the transport!
