Aquarium Pula participates in the project JELLYfish for BIZ – Business, Innovation and Knowledge (JELLYBIZ)

Aquarium Pula has started the implementation of the project JELLYfish for BIZ – Business, Innovation and Knowledge (JELLYBIZ), which is implemented in cooperation with the leading partner Municipality of Petacciato and Municipality of Francavilla al Mare within the Interreg VI-A Italy – Croatia 2021-2027 program. The project is focused on the development of common solutions for the management of the increasingly frequent occurrences of foreign jellyfish in the Adriatic and research into the possibility of their sustainable valorization.

In recent years, jellyfish represent an increasing challenge for fisheries, aquaculture, tourism and the coastal communities of the Adriatic. At the same time, the possibilities of their application in different areas of the blue economy are being increasingly explored, but there are still no harmonized legal and administrative frameworks for their sustainable management and valorization at the cross-border level.

The goal of the JELLYBIZ project is to develop a common cross-border cooperation framework that will remove administrative and legislative obstacles and create prerequisites for sustainable management and economic valorization of jellyfish.

Aquarium Pula is participating in the project with its scientific and professional experience and will conduct research activities, including genetic analyses, participate in the development of joint guidelines and recommendations, and through education and communication, bring the importance of understanding the role of jellyfish in marine ecosystems closer to the public.
