On 15 December 2025, the scientific journal Mediterranean Marine Science published a paper by our team and Spanish scientists entitled “Experimental evaluation of Haplosporidium pinnae DNA detection and degradation under semi-controlled conditions.” The authors of the paper are Dr Željko Pavlinec, Dr Gaetano Catanese, and Dr Milena Mičić.
The developed method represents a valuable tool for the conservation of the fan mussel, as it enables the determination of the presence of H. pinnae in refuges through water sampling, without interfering with individual organisms. In addition, the method provides a foundation for the further development of parasite detection approaches in natural habitats.
