Preparations are underway for a smaller exhibition dedicated to Austro-Hungarian fortifications, with a special focus on Verudela Fortress and the San Giovanni Battery. Visitors will have the opportunity to see how these fortifications looked and to learn about some of the military equipment used at the time.
As part of the exhibition, we will also present a replica of an Austro-Hungarian infantry uniform, worn for this occasion by our staff member Šime Juković.
This standard combat uniform was worn by infantry as well as garrison troops in fortresses before and during the early phase of World War I. The uniform was spear-gray (hechtgrau) with a high collar and consisted of a shirt, trousers, jacket, peaked cap, leather belt, and ankle boots with metal-studded soles to prevent rapid wear.
The accompanying weaponry included a bayonet and a Mannlicher M1895 rifle, of which we created a 3D-printed model. This rifle was the most widely used and recognized firearm of the Austro-Hungarian infantry during World War I.
In addition to uniforms, visitors will be able to explore new 3D models of Verudela Fortress and the San Giovanni Battery, crafted based on original plans. This new exhibition will undoubtedly enhance understanding of our city’s rich military history and further enrich the experience of the Mediterranean and exotic displays at Aquarium Pula.
