Loggerhead Turtle Raul Arrives at the Rescue Center

For the third day in a row, on Monday afternoon, July 14, a new juvenile loggerhead turtle named Raul arrived at our Rescue Center. We sincerely thank Mr. Vedran Mikelić and his son Raul, who found her in Zonki Bay near Štinjan in Pula. Although she shows the same symptoms (lethargy, hypothermia, and dense barnacle coverage) as the previous two turtles (Frida and Havajka), Raul immediately began feeding on the offered shrimp.

Upon arrival at the Rescue Center, Raul received infusions and glucose, and today we continue with diagnostic tests, including X-rays and blood analysis, while beginning the removal of barnacle growth.

Raul weighs 408 g, has a shell length of 14 cm, and is nearly one year old.

Due to three consecutive findings in the Pula area, we anticipate that more injured turtles may be discovered soon. We kindly ask citizens and visitors of Pula to report any found turtles that may be injured or sick to the Aquarium Pula info line: +385 52 381 402.
