Loggerhead Turtle Elva Arrives at the Rescue Center

Yesterday, August 19, the loggerhead sea turtle Elva arrived at our Rescue Center. She was found by Ms. Jana from Slovenia, floating in the Lovrečica Bay near Umag, in an extremely critical condition. Elva weighs 9.8 kg, her shell measures approximately 45.5 cm, and her age is estimated to be around 10 years.

Upon arrival at the center, the turtle received infusions and glucose, and diagnostic tests were carried out. A central shell injury extending toward the injured right rear flipper was identified, suggesting a possible strike by a boat propeller.

The young turtles admitted last month are progressing very well: they swim and dive independently, have a good appetite, and are gradually gaining weight. They will soon be returned to the sea. The turtles that arrived in the middle of this month, Blue Gem, Marlin, and Lorenzo, are still under intensive care and supervision. We remove dense shell growth daily, which is gradually becoming harder and more resilient, and we are confident they will fully recover over time.
